2023 Cruises

We did a series of trips in 2023.

Baltimore MD 2023 – This was our first stop in our circumnavigation of the Maryland part of the Chesapeake Bay.

Great Loop

These are the pictures from our Great Loop Trip in 2014 and 2015. They are in reverse order, from the last part of the trip to the start.

Winter Break in Tavernier FL – Tavernier is at the top of the Floriday Keys, just below Key Largo.  We had lots of fun there!

Keys Vacation – Dave and Mike joined us for some fun times

Dolphins! Dolphins! Dolphins!  Nothing but thousands of pictures of dolphins! For your daily squee, come here. I considerately did not add these thousands of pictures of dolphins to the regular albums, so as not to overwhelm the philistines that do not appreciate these slippery bundles of fun.

Florida West Coast This album picks up after our 21 hour gulf crossing and runs right down the coast to our winter home in Tavernier, FL just below Key Largo.

Florida Panhandle Pictures of our stay from Orange Beach FL up through the 21 hour gulf crossing we made.

USS Alabama A visit to the USS Alabama on our way back from our trip to New Orleans.  Great display and well worth a visit if you’re in Mobile.

Pensacola Naval Aviation Museum – the best aviation museum we’ve seen so far.  They have amazing displays and lots of interactive content.

New Orleans – once we got to Orange Beach FL we took a side trip of 3 days to the amazing city of New Orleans!

Mobile Bay – we FINALLY made it out of the ditch!

Tennesse River – Tombigbee Waterway – This is a pretty big album since we spent a lot of hours on this waterway, however there are some amazing wildlife shots (eagles, deer, herons and turtles) as well as some beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Makers Mark Distillery – side trip

Harrisburg, PA – a brief trip home for a sad reason reunited us with family and friends

Nashville, TN – we visited the Country Music Hall of Fame, Johnny Cash Museum, and Grand Ole Opry

Mississippi, Ohio, and Cumberland Rivers – pictures from the many small towns and anchorages where we stayed on our trip south

Hoppies’ Marina, Kimmswick MO – famous among loopers as it is one of the only marinas to stop on the Mississippi river.  Fern, who runs the marina with her husband, provides a daily briefing to loopers on navigation dangers and best anchorages

St. Louis, MO – we drove to St. Louis for the day and visited the Botanical Gardens, Arch, and Pappy’s Smokehouse restaurant

Grafton, IL – we relaxed and renewed for a few days in Grafton

Calumet-Sag Canal and Illinois River – Our trip down the river and all the little towns that we’ve stopped at along the way.

Chicago – We spent three days in Chicago, going at full speed every minute!  There’s lots of pictures to look at from our trip, including visits to the Museum of Technology, Field Museum, Adler Planetarium, Navy Pier, and our River Boat tour.

Milwaukee and Racine – We spent a few days exploring Milwaukee and there was so much to explore, including the fabulous Discover World, Art Museum, Harley Davidson Museum, and lots of breweries!  We spent another day traveling to Racine by rental car to see the Frank Lloyd Wright house “Wingspread”.

Southern half of Lake Michigan – these are some smaller towns we stopped at during our trip through Lake Michigan: Manitowoc WI, Port Washington WI, Waukegan IL, Hammond IN.  Sadly I can’t offer any pictures of beautiful Sheboygan since we bypassed it!

Green Bay – Our trip by car to see the home of the Packers!

Door County Wisconsin – Beautiful Wisconsin

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula – many beautiful small towns and bays on our trip – not sure if we qualified as guest Yoopers.

Mackinac Island – Beautiful island that is closed to motor traffic – only horses and horse drawn carriages allowed!

Sault Ste. Marie – Ontario and Michigan – there are 2 Sault Ste. Maries sitting across from one another, one in Canada and the other in the U.S.  We had fun exploring both.

Agawa Canyon Train Tour – we took an amazing all day trip on a train through the wilderness, stopping to explore Agawa Canyon halfway through the day (video coming soon)

Bush Plane Museum - our first stop in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario was the Bush Plane museum!

North Channel – the last half of our trip on Lake Huron
